It’s a short book.
That’s not a complaint. If anything it’s a compliment that the only thing I can find to complain of is that there wasn’t as much of the book as I might like.
The characters are quirky and interesting. I’m thinking specifically of Mary, her best friend, and her grandmother. The other characters are interesting enough to be in the story, in one case changing from relatively two-dimensional to more interesting within the last chapter or two of the book.
Again, that’s not a complaint. All the characters were as interesting as they needed to be for the story to work.
With any luck, there will be a sequel. It includes a main character and world that I’d like to see more of.
