SERVICING THE POLE

Raw and unpleasant – couldn’t stop reading

This isn’t a nice story. Neither is it hopeful, cheering or even fun to read. But I couldn’t stop reading. Servicing the pole is a well-written story about the daily life of a stripper. Tough, raw and slightly depressing are words that come to mind. The protagonist isn’t really sympathetic and her life is almost pure horror, but because you hope that in the end there might come in a little sunshine you keep on reading. You hope for hope. It’s one of those stories that keep bugging your head because they make you feel uncomfortable, and force you to think.

As a non-native speaker I can’t really comment on style or grammar, to me it felt natural and correct, but there’s other people better qualified to judge this. The website itself is beautiful, easy to navigate and the chapters are cut where they should. One bonus is the author’s blog which has a long discussion on online reading and the future of the traditional publishing world. In conclusion I strongly recommend it, it isn’t a story for the faint of heart (language, violence and sex), and it messes with your head, but that is what a good story should do.
