SCARY MARY

The Teen Years I Wish I’d Had

By Morgan O'Friel, editor

Aug 17, 2008: Scary Mary was one of the first online serial novels that I read, and it remains one of my favorites. Mary has a ghost for a dog, rebellious friends, and the coolest grandmother to grace the web serial world in quite some time.

Mary’s a strong protagonist with a quirky life. Even when she’s going through her hardships, she knows who she is and where she stands, and doesn’t change herself to suit others.

Nov 25, 2013: The story and characters are complex and multi-levelled. The amount of thought that went into this world and the characters that inhabit it, is only outmatched by McDermott’s skill at bringing their story to life; and it keeps improving from one page to the next.

Read it; you won’t regret it
