A Practical Guide to Evil by ErraticErrata

Do Wrong Right

The Empire stands triumphant.

For twenty years the Dread Empress has ruled over the lands that were once the Kingdom of Callow, but behind the scenes of this dawning golden age threats to the crown are rising. The nobles of the Wasteland, denied the power they crave, weave their plots behind pleasant smiles. In the north the Forever King eyes the ever-expanding borders of the Empire and ponders war. The greatest danger lies to the west, where the First Prince of Procer has finally claimed her throne: her people sundered, she wonders if a crusade might not be the way to secure her reign. Yet none of this matters, for in the heart of the conquered lands the most dangerous man alive sat across an orphan girl and offered her a knife.

Her name is Catherine Foundling, and she has a plan.

A Practical Guide to Evil is a YA fantasy novel about a young girl named Catherine Foundling making her way through the world – though, in a departure from the norm, not on the side of the heroes. Is there such a thing as doing bad things for good reasons, or is she just rationalizing her desire for control? Good and Evil are tricky concepts, and the more power you get the blurrier the lines between them become.

Note: A Practical Guide to Evil contains some graphic violence and harsh language.

Overlording

By Syphax, author of Stone Burners

Sep 13, 2015: Have you read that Evil Overlord list? The one where it gives a 100 point list of things to do when you become an overlord to avoid the pitfalls of those who came before you? A Practical Guide to Evil is that, in story form, and quite clever about it, too. Hell, the Empire’s armies are literally called the Legions of Terror, subtlety apparently not a quality that empires possess.

Anyways, the setting. In this world, Heroes and Villains come about [more . . .]

This guide is NOT for dummies.

Jan 4, 2016: This is a story about STORY. About how people let the concept of story run their lives. Where genre awareness is a real life skill, because magic and reality actually do work on tropes.

This is a story about a woman determined to make right what has been made wrong, but knowing that being a Hero won’t do it.

This is a story about choice, magic, swordfights, and all the hard shitty [more . . .]

Are you mad at stupid villains?

By Jackrum, member

Sep 26, 2016: In my opinion, this story is magnificent. The characters are well thought out and feel that they have a true depth. Even many side-characters show thoughts and actions that lead you to believe they are actual individuals in the world not just a bit part appearance.

I stumbled across this story looking for something to inspire me, to take a look at a villainous outlook during a novel but this is not what I expected. It takes the perspective of a [more . . .]
