There is an interesting story at the heart of this serial fic.  However, it’s buried under too many words, including several instances where the author tells us what’s happening and then shows it as well or vice versa.  It’s grammatically correct, but I bet the word count of any chapter could be cut by a quarter without loosing relevant detail.  As it is, the narrative is interesting but dull to read despite intrigue, assassination, a very unusual acolyte, and a scifi version of the old hermit witch hovering around the edges.
