Addergoole has totally captivated me. I began reading Friday (thinking I’d just check out a few chapters) and got little else done over the weekend. Now I’ve read EVERYTHING there and eagerly await the next posting.
In Addergoole, Ms. Thorne-Alder has created a rich world with a fascinating history and ruleset and populated it with an ensemble of strong, compelling characters. It’s sexy and dark, which I love, but one of the best surprises for me was the sense of humor. Addergoole gave me some genuine laugh-out-loud moments and a bunch of smiles, special moments shared with characters who feel like real friends. Addergoole, finely wrought, strikes a perfect balance between character-driven and plot-driven momentum. There’s a depth here that’s lacking in much of the web fiction I’ve tried to read.
Each of the characters is vibrantly developed. Shahin, with her tough goth exterior, is among my favorites. Unflappable, this girl—until you get inside her head and see what’s really going on. Can’t wait until Emrys figures her out. I also have major soft spots for Ty and Jamian. If any two characters ever deserved to find ultimate happiness, it’s those two.
The story just wrapped me up and carried me along. And when I reached the end, it was a genuine "Nooooooooooo!" moment. Fortunately, the author’s still posting, so I hope to soon get another Addergoole fix. And she better keep posting, too, or I will send her nasty emails via the site’s handy CONTACT button. I’m in this one for the long haul and it feels good.
The layout is clean and effective, the color scheme elegant, understated, and higly readable. The site’s packed with extras, including bonus scenes and character profiles.
I haven’t had this much fun reading in a long, long time.
