Afterlife by Mike Monroe

A free online science fiction/western serial.

The world as we know it is gone. It’s become a vast desert wasteland where you could ride a sand bike for hundreds of miles before seeing signs of civilization. Our cities are long destroyed. Others have risen up in their ashes, but it’s taken thousands of years. A small number of wealthy business tycoons have managed to thrive in this new world, though it’s been at the cost of freedom for the masses. Bandits roam the wastelands, killing and stealing indiscriminately. Fearless lawmen try to keep the peace in the towns and villages, but they are few and the lawless are many. Scavengers roam the deserts, searching for anything that may help them live one more day in this hell. There’s hope, though. Where there’s life, there’s always hope.

Note: Afterlife contains some graphic violence and harsh language.

An ongoing series, with new episodes fortnightly

Darkest Serial I’ve Ever Read

By MaddiroseX, author of Twisted Cogs

Jan 8, 2014: This was a very difficult review to write.

The world of Afterlife itself is incredibly well set up, and as a huge scifi fan/writer I have to give the author credit for creating an awesome setting that merges dystopian, futuristic, and cowboy-western themes quite well. The characters are believable and intriguing, and I enjoy how his protagonists are flawed and human. Hell, there’s even a pretty illustration at the beginning of each chapter, that does even more to bring the great [more . . .]

The Best Webserial on the web

By TheChivalrousRogue, author of Skyborne

Jan 18, 2014: I have never given five stars in a review before, I did for this one.

It’s certainly one of the best webserials out there, and by far my favorite right now. The characters have strong personalities: quirks, faults, and their own sets of morals. The apocalyptic atmosphere is painted close to perfectly, with good narrative descriptions of the setting, people, good dialogue and a dark overall tone. Technology is believable and fits nicely into the overall motif.
