I have to admit that I started to read this Series with a few misconceptions. My confession probably isn’t going to do me any favours but I feel it is necessary because there could be others out there who have failed to give Baubles and Broomsticks the consideration it deserves.
Firstly, I had difficulty accepting online fiction in script format. Secondly, I had the bizarre idea that I was not a part of this story’s intended audience. With that out of the way I’ll get down to the review.
Baubles and Broomsticks is a pleasure to read. In a way, it is just like settling down to watch a favourite television programme only the action happens in your head and not on the screen. Please don’t fall into the same trap I did and let the script format put you off – it’s an effortless read!
The characters and their relationships are well defined and although each is very different they gel together well. The story lines are interesting and the magical/mythical references are well researched – something I appreciate immensely.
I’m not keen on the PDF format, I find it takes away the extra dimension I enjoy when reading a story online.
The ‘Casting’ was lost on me – I could not relate on any level to the Stock Photographs. Added to that, I felt that Helen Mirren was completely miscast as Tanya Zoe . . .
The soundtrack references were a nice touch and it would be a bonus if you could listen to the music while reading.
Do yourself a favour and give this series a chance – you’ll be glad you did.
