BETTER ANGELS

Better Angels by Thorne

Better Angels begins with Nikki, an unfortunate criminal wannabe with a bad attitude towards women, Layla, who needs a new boyfriend, and Max who has recently returned to the city. The story is about the dregs of Gray Harbor, and has a clinging mood of darkness to it.

The author, Mr. Thorne, has a good concept of language, and has a rare talent for shaping sentences. I did find the sheer volume of adjectives and adverbs a little distracting, but Mr. Thorne never once chooses a word that leaves me trotting for a dictionary. His descriptions are unique and original, but not insane.

Navigation is easy to use and the color scheme looks great! If you have an vision problems at all however, or intend to read more than a few chapters I recommend moving the pages to a word document and reading there. Black background and white text does not make extended reading periods comfortable, even if it does match the mood of the story nicely.

If you like dark, somewhat depressing stories this one may be up your alley. If you check it out, be sure and admire his cover art. It looks quite professional and well thought out. ^^
