Child of Man by Kristina Tracer

When an industrial accident threatens the life of a Child of Nature, a group of survivors must ask a Child of Man to risk death to save him.

Alex dreams of being more than human. Shadowdance sometimes remembers he is more than wolf. Briar wishes she could be nothing more than rabbit. Watcher looks after those who tread these lines.

A trucking accident sends a wave of toxic sludge and smoke through the Protectorate of Shadowdance, a Child of Wolf that has Pledged himself to protect the Deer Run National Park as his own life.  In the quest to save Shadowdance’s life, the shaman and healer Watcher must reach outside his world of dying survivalists, to find a Child of Man who can help them. Unfortunately for Alex Demont, however, Watcher’s connection also brings him to the attention of the Shepherds, a group of self-proclaimed guardians of humanity that will stop at nothing to see the Children of Nature eliminated.

Note: Child of Man contains some harsh language.

The first chapter is solid and the premise is interesting.  Werewolves as park rangers, and guardians of the balance of nature and civilization.
