Ember is probably one of the best fairy tale remakes I’ve seen so far. It offers a human side to characters who were previously only flat stereotypes, and it cleverly plays these stereotypes as the rumors and gossip of other people.
The story of the Cinder Girl is just as brilliant as the true relationships of the "wicked step-sisters," and as the story plays out, what some people might see as cruelty is really just human nature expressing itself in its purest forms. This is a fairy tale fleshed out to make it real and solid. Its an impressive story that keeps me thinking about a chapter long after I finish it.
I’m now roughly halfway through the story, and enjoying every chapter immensely. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a more mature and honest look at Cinderella and Prince Charming.
