Though this story seems to be about the frivolous and classical ideas of dragons, gremlins, pirates and the rest, I found it to really and truly be a reckoning with the idea of death. While at times this seemed to be no more than a childish and addictive adventure, a more depressing pondering of death seemed to be stretched throughout the entire story. Constantly the question of the main character’s mortality or immortality was brought up, and goal of the adventure in the end seemed less to save the art of storytelling but instead to maintain the immortality of stories.
The rest of the time, Nitschke kept you glued to the screen with this classic adventure (and its quirky premise).
