From Winter’s Ashes by Patrick Rochefort and Keith Aksland

A Detective with nothing more to lose, against a Necromancer with a world to gain.

Heather Blackthorne once hunted necromantic cults in the service of the Church. But one villain slipped her grasp, and her husband and son paid the price.

Her life and career shattered, mysterious forces conspire to plant her in the high North. And what peace is to be found is all too quickly shattered, as her past comes hunting for far more than her this time.

Note: From Winter’s Ashes contains some graphic violence and harsh language.

The sermon is faithful, but the feasting is ghoulish…

Oct 19, 2015: My first impression review is focused on the first chapter. Though I did read more to make sure I am not babbling complete crap, too.

”From Winter’s Ashes” is definitely NOT an innovative work. It is more a solid, dedicated, and classic tale. Like the info tells us, we will find it done throughout the chapters.

The format is good, readability made easy, dialogs easily recognized and so forth.

Apr 27, 2015: To date, this is the best serial that I’ve ever read. Of the 15 or so serials from this site that I’ve tried or completed, none of them have been written this well. I recently tried to struggle through Sanderson’s Mistborn series and found the writing uninspired compared to From Winter’s Ashes.

The characters are intelligent and human, which is a huge departure from the normal fantasy staple of having creatures that embody certain aspects of human emotion. I won’t say [more . . .]
