Ghost Touch by Evan Toe

"For Rainey Sullivan, every night is a one night stand."

Society is getting colder. The newest street drug jacks people into the Grid, a place of escape if you’re rich enough to afford it. Rainey Sullivan lives off the Grid. A street urchin with an unwanted talent, Rainey sticks to the outskirts of society, relying on petty theft to survive. Until one night when she picks the wrong pocket and steals more than just cash.

Note: Ghost Touch is unfinished, and will likely remain so.  It contains some graphic violence and harsh language.

Editor’s First Impression

By Chris Poirier, editor

Nov 18, 2013: A strong, engaging first-person narrative with lots of vivid detail. One of the better starts I’ve seen in a while.

Hooked

Nov 19, 2013: This is definately one of those stories that throws you down and makes you quickly jump to the edge of the seat. I have read all of the chapters the author has posted so far and I will say that I . . . want more.

The grammar looks good. The writing style is balanced. There is enough things going on that keeps you reading, and it is smartly broken up with conversation.

A great start, but some characters need depth and tagline is misleading.

By Underwhelming Force, author of Sins of the Fathers

Mar 5, 2014: I initially had reservations regarding Ghost Touch when I read the tagline "every night is a one-night stand," which I soon found is very misleading. I was hooked immediately by the intensely personal story of someone no one can remember, exploring the concepts of identity, morality, and isolation in a mature and thought-provoking way. The character of Rainey has been deeply scarred by events in her past and cursed with a gift she can’t control. She’s a very interesting character who I am very eager to see more of.

One You Won’t Forget

By Ace, author of Knave

Feb 28, 2014: From the tagline, I thought it’d be a completely different story than it ended up being. So, if it turns you off, keep reading because it’s definitely one of the more entertaining serials I’ve stumbled upon. This review contains minor spoilers, you’ve been warned.

Ghost Touch has a really strong voice, you can get a pretty good idea of what kind of person Rainey Sullivan is from the way she narrates.
