Graven by Sharkerbob

In 2029, thirteen unearthly structures called Doorways appeared across the world. Any human that entered immediately disappeared. Thousands were never seen again, but every once in a while, someone would come back out after a few days, garbed in strange clothing and possessing superhuman powers. Despite the odds, many of the desperate, ambitious, and hopeful surged through the Doorways in search of personal power.

Eleven years have passed, and the world has undergone catastrophic changes as the result of superhuman conflict. Entire continents and civilizations have been lost, a supervillain epidemic threatens those societies that remain, and the world’s greatest superhero team has just been destroyed. In the wake of this latest tragedy, a band of superhuman bounty hunters comes together to track down the source of these disasters, and perhaps save what remains of the falling world.

Note: Graven contains pervasive graphic violence; also, some harsh language.

I’ve been sitting here pondering whether I’d rather assign four or four and a half stars. Graven has its flaws, but in the end I decided that these flaws (such as the class A speed of the plot development) actually aren’t detrimental to web fiction. But there are a lot of typos and minor editing issues (their [more . . .]

Are Powers Just A Grave Mistake?

By Hejin57, author of Music Masters

Dec 29, 2018: In the end, it’s always nice to return to superheroes. Powers, capes, costumes, they’re attractive in works of fiction and it’s nice to see how the formula can be jostled or shaken with each new work involving them.

As someone who is beginning to grow weary of superpower stories, I have to say I was glad to have read Graven to completion.

The story takes place in an alternate future Earth of [more . . .]
