A serialized novel, updating weekdays.

Hades Rising is an original fictional universe created by author Cory Cramer.  The stories you’ll find in Hades Rising blend the excitement of pulp-era adventure, mystery, and romance novels, with the depth of character found in more contemporary literature.

(Review written after reading the first 10 chapters).

There was just something preventing me from getting in Hades Rising. The opening is solid - but since we’ve just been introduced to the characters, it is hard to be worried for them and the mortal danger they’re in. We get a bit from the father’s perspective, but since both parents are lost to the sea by the end of the chapter, it seems a little pointless. And confusing.

The following chapters are more linear, if slow - we establish where she is, that there’s a cute male nurse, and that she takes a shower. (A line of description in that section bothers me - it’s been established that it’s cold - hence, goosebumps and . . . erect nipples. I do not want to be thinking about the nipples of a girl who was just in a shipwreck. It just seems unecessary).

She gets the backpack that her father thrust on her in the first chapter - containing a plethora of items, which could be of importance, or just red herrings to think about - as well a diary.

It’s at this point where the story drops into flashbacks. There’s a demon for a moment, then it’s simply about a man trying to escape a murder rap.

There’s nothing wrong with the writing style, but at the same time, there was nothing compelling me to continue reading.

While the story needs a bit of polishing, it is an entertaining daily read. I enjoy the different perspectives Cory uses, however this can be confusing at times. It’s hard to understand the actual plot and how it relates to the girl. I do recommend the story though! Each chapter is better than the last as Cory learns :)

As the above reviewer stated, the beginning of Hades Rising is solid. Then it gets a little rough, with lots of dialogue. After a few chapters it gets awesome again.

When she starts reading the diary (that’s the ‘flashbacks’ the above reviewer mentioned), we don’t see much of Lilly for a good long time, as the story centers around Buck and his father-killing demon. For a while it seems like this is going to be just an escape story, but then it gets interesting as he acquires and is forced to leave a girlfriend,  runs into the demon several more times, and sets off into the ocean.

There have been several times in Buck’s narrative where I’ve held my breath until the end of the chapter without realizing it. The book is fast paced and easy to read, and all in all quite good.
