HOW TO AVOID DEATH ON A DAILY BASIS

The story improves quickly and is still getting better

Jun 9, 2016: When I first started reading this story, I almost dropped it. The scenario seemed familiar, the writing could have used improvements, and the protagonist seemed to have zero redeeming qualities.

However, the despicable personality of the main character is why I continued to read, because it is a refreshing alternative to the driven, kind hearted, gifted main character that we typically see curb stomping every evil doer they come across.

The story is written in first person, with the protagonist narrating the story with internal monologues. It’s during these that we see the main character’s negative viewpoints and thoughts, which may be a turn off for many readers. The main character is unapologetic and honest in his opinions, which include comments based on gender and race. As I’ve said, this character is not a good person, and some readers don’t find that appealing, while others (like myself) might find it refreshing.

The writing comes together rather quickly and the main character becomes someone worth cheering for at around chapter 16 when he demonstrates his manipulative skills for the first time. At this point, you can see the story beginning to take form from the cliche setting it started with.

This story has continued to improve as the chapters continue. The questions on moral obligations and conflicts over doing what is right vs doing what is safe are entertaining and thought provoking, and I am excited to see where the author plans on taking the story from here.

Personally I feel that if the author went back and rewrote the beginning of this story now, with the level of writing of these latest chapters, How To Avoid Death On A Daily Basis could easily and consistently receive 4 and 5 star ratings.
