In the House of Five Dragons by E.D. Lindquist & Aron Christensen

He is not the hero they remember. This is not the world he knew.

It’s been thirty years since Njorn Pass, since the victory that birthed an empire. Thirty years since Rikard Mazrem drew his blood in the snow, trading his life away to the otherworldly Alterra and vanished from the ice-bound battlefield. For decades, the people of Carce have revered Rikard as a hero.

But now Rikard Mazrem has returned to find the world changed. Or perhaps he is the one who has changed . . .

Feb 13, 2011: The writing in the first few entries is solid, although it alternates between being a bit flowery and very sparse. You get the characters mindless exhaustion but not much else, so far. May change the rating after reading more.

Feb 19, 2011: Wow! This was an excellent sci-fi/ fantasy novel. The story was well-developed. The authors managed to seamlessly switch between character viewpoints to "show" the reader the story ‘verse. The plot was unique and interesting. It was unlike anything I’ve read before . . . and I read a lot! I was so caught up that I read the whole thing straight through in one day.

It took the first few chapters to set the stage and for characters develop before the story truly began. Have patience! I highly recommend this story to all fantasy/ sci-fi fans. And one of the best hings is that the story is complete!
