Editor’s First Impression

By Palladian, editor, author of Super

Jul 21, 2013: Oathbreaker’s Price is a fantasy story centering on a Rimland healer, Lili, whose life has been turned upside down by the abduction of her sister, and Zev, a mysterious member of the Tisreen nation, the same nationality as the people who took Lili’s sister. The author does a good job of developing both of these characters and introducing their different cultures and the world that shaped them. You get a sense of the world of the healers, people who can help the sick by touching them, sensing what’s wrong, and transferring energy to help them heal, and that of the Tisreen people, who originate from a great desert and have rigid customs and traditions.

The story that spins out as a result is interesting and gripping, as the two are forced for their own safety to travel together and to cooperate, both to find Lili’s sister and to work against the system that took her captive in the first place. As far as something that could be improved about this work, I would urge the author to remove her initial comment about this being resurrected writing, which made me unenthusiastic in the extreme to read something that had been sitting around for long enough to need to be brought back from the dead.

A note to readers, this story is hosted on Wattpad, an app that formats your stories for mobile devices. However, it’s available through the internet as well, and doesn’t require registration to read stories, and the navigation seems fairly intuitive.

At any rate, I’d recommend this story to fans of fantasy who like pre-modern settings, political intrigue, and suspense.
