Outliers by knifleman

Super Powers, Not-So-Super People

30 years ago brought the first superhumans, regular people given great power seemingly at random.

15 years ago brought the paranormals, stranger and often weaker in their abilities, but far more numerous.

Today, the world holds its breath . . .

Or at least, it should.

Most people, though, are just trying to get on with their lives; some successfully, some less so. It’s a sensible goal, but it’s a bit hard to achieve when shadowy conspiracies and worldwide N.G.O.s are turning your city into a proxy battleground over world-shattering secrets.

It’s bad enough when you’ve just woken up with superpowers and terrorists are holding your school hostage. It’s even worse if you’re an illegal vigilante stuck in the middle of the whole Charlie Foxtrot after a supervillain raid drops vital information in your lap.

For Hannah Eiling-Kingsford and Flint Perez, life is about to get a lot harder to get on with.

Note: Outliers contains some graphic violence and harsh language.

Aug 16, 2016: I promised myself no more superhero serials on the list, but after reading chapter one of one of the author’s side projects, I had to read.

I will give it one of the great compliments I can give. I was so engrossed in the story on my phone this morning that I missed several bus stops and had to walk an extra mile to get to work.

Fast-Reading Fun

By LEErickson, author of Crowmakers

Mar 9, 2016: REVIEWER’S NOTE: This original review was done in March 2016. As of August 2016, the author has rewritten the story’s opening, done some additional editing throughout, and worked out his previous formatting issues. In doing so, he addressed my concerns about needing a character scorecard as well as about typos and formatting. Which means this truly enjoyable read is even more enjoyable and bumps my previous rating up to a full four stars. Maybe more, if this genre is your thing. So what are you waiting for?

Unique

Dec 18, 2015: (I’ve been told the author has made significant changes to the portions I have read. This review is pending a rewrite, as such.)

Outliers is a story about Superheroes, but that’s not very informative, so let’s get some extra information out there.

The majority of the writing takes place in the first person perspective, but as of 6.3 there have been two main characters to whom the camera is given. Not to [more . . .]
