This is a fairly new serial novel as I review. There are only 5 chapters complete, and it seems to be updated weekly. So far I really enjoy were the story is going.

The story is about the world 20 years in the future after a virus called Persephone wipes out most most of humanity.

The prologue creates the background of the story explaining the development of three factions. The order, which seems to be a religious group with the mission of re-populating the earth by whatever means possible. The scorpions, which just sounds like the violent group that will survive by any means (the story hasn’t explained as much about them). And then there are those in communities around the world that create there own systems to survive and try to keep out the order and scorpions. The main community followed in this story is a settlement at a Mall in Vancouver.

The story is told first person by Aeryn. She was born at the settlement but soon after her mother died and her father had died from the virus. She grows up not knowing of the world of cars and fashion but of survival. She spends her time reading or practicing weaponry to survive. Her closest friends are her two mentors Raul and Theo as well as another girl her junior, Cherry.

So far it is really a good story as it introduces the character dynamics of Cherry being like a sister and Raul and Theo being like parents to them. Also there is a common theme of distrust in anything not familiar due to the factions

A most peculiar development is that the two girls are the only two people in their community between 12-27 and that leads to some controversial ideas – but it is definitely interesting. Especially, since the last chapter introduced, Hunter, an outsider and a male that may have caught the interest of both girls.

This could get interesting – keep a look out for it.
