Price by TanaNari

Everything has a price

Price is a street level setting where supers are rarely any more destructive than a modern tank might be, focused upon character drama over the powers.

Intended to be a series of short novels focusing on different characters and how they live their lives.

Death of a Hero, the first story in this universe, follows Zach Parker. A sixteen year old boy who recently gained his powers and decides the first thing to do with them is get revenge. Then life happens.

Other stories are planned, expanding as I have new ideas.

Note: Price contains some graphic violence and harsh language.

An ongoing series, with new episodes sporadically

Price offers interesting concepts with less interesting execution

By Marn, author of Prairie Song

Nov 13, 2015: After reading through a fairly large chunk of the Death of a Hero arc, I can firmly say that my initial impression of Price was correct. The writing is full of little tidbits of worldbuilding that consistently make me want to know more about the universe Price takes place in, but I have trouble bringing myself to care about the characters living in the universe. For instance, the alternate history that Price seems to take place in intrigued me, such as the mention of classical novels like The Great Gatsby [more . . .]

No title

Nov 14, 2015: So I read as far as I possibly could, before sitting down to write this review.

The way powers manifest is interesting. It sounded, to me, like a good idea until I read some of the implications of this, (Chapter 7, World War II for example.) It wouldn’t have made such a negative impact on me, if it were not coupled with how poorly race is treated in the entire story. (Or rather, that racism isn’t handled at all.)

Crippled By The Protagonist

By Rhodeworks, author of Not All Heroes

May 30, 2018: This is a difficult review for me.

I have a critical mind, but I do not enjoy being harsh. Death of a Hero—a part of the wider Price world—was a difficult read. There are some fairly interesting ideas in here, but they are buried under a wealth of issues that I assume, hopefully, stem from the author’s misguided attempt to capture a particular character with a particular voice.

The prose is fine. [more . . .]
