Provoking Fire is an original fantasy web novel set in an alternate reality where Earth is inhabited by both humans and mutants, beings that appear to be human, but possess supernatural abilities. The discovery of these super-powered individuals has rocked the globe and in the aftermath of a destructive world war a few humans strive to understand and strike a peace between the mutants and the tech company that reigns the world with an iron fist.

Note: Provoking Fire is unfinished, with no recent updates.  It contains some graphic sexual content, graphic violence, and harsh language.

Editor’s First Impression

By Fiona Gregory, editor

Dec 2, 2012: This budding serial has an impressive number of updates already in its short existance, accompanied by lovely watercolour and pen&ink illustrations. It follows the story of two brothers, Kai and Kopi, who with their family are imprisoned in a concentration camp for mutants and cruelly experimented on. It then jumps ahead to a later period in their lives after the brothers have escaped from "Compound 17" and are now working for a family of researchers who hope to study the mutants, but who seem naive and oblivious about what has happened to them in the past. Like the two young women in this family, I am frustrated wanting to get further into the minds and the mysterious abilities of our mutant protagonists.
