Chris Poirier’s review is right on the money. I think I have more confidence in the author’s ability to pull all the laces into a tight and satisfying bow. She is at her best when her characters show humor but can be a little stiff describing an action, both points demonstrated in this one sentence from chapter 13: "She delivered her words on a silver plate of reason but Tal felt an urgent desire to put her over his knee and spank her spoiled arse." One of the characters repeatedly says "um", and I found it distracting, but it serves a purpose in the story. Overall, a promising story from an even more promising writer. As there is no quarter stars, I gave this story 5 stars, but there is always room for improvement, so unofficially its 4 3/4 stars.
