STALKING SHADOWS

A strong start

I recall reading "Scary Mary" way, way back in the day, when I first started reading web fiction.  Yup.  I’m talking about a year ago.

Still, "Scary Mary" was indeed one of the first online novels that I read and I remember it fondly.  I was excited to see that a sequel is being posted, and so far it’s been just as fun and well written as the first one.  It’s even, dare I say, a bit better.  Vicky, a character that was a one dimensional foil in the first story, is now in an interesting predicament and has the potential to become a more well-rounded character.  A la Cordelia from Buffy, perhaps?

There’s even the introduction of an extended family for Mary, and a cousin with special abilities, not quite just like hers, but similar enough for Mary to feel like less of a loner freak.  Rachel, her faithful friend, is a solid sidekick character and the kind of BFF I wish I had as a teen.  And of course, there’s more boy trouble, which is fun to watch Mary deal with (as opposed to awful teen romance coughTwilightcough).

I’m enjoying it, and looking forward to more.
