As with a lot of the other recent reviews, I’ve found myself quickly losing interest. The pacing of the story is just too slow, and there’s too much interesting information not being covered in favor of extending coverage of sexual exploits. The character development is hyper-focused on the sexuality of the characters. While that’s obviously an important component of maturing, I find it somewhat distracting and overdone in this serial.
As in real life, there are things to like and dislike about each character, with none filling the role of perfect antagonist or protagonist. Everyone is flawed and that, at least, is realistic. But AE has a tendency to drone on about people’s flaws and express them more in character dialogue than in their actions. With so little actual time passing, it’s hard to imagine everyone spending that much time on self reflection. And the frequency with which characters seem to have some sort of epiphany about their own actions seems forced.
I used to look forward to new chapters, but at this point I mostly just skim them to see if there’s anything interesting that moves the story forward or expands on non-sexual themes, and then check back again in a week or two to find that nothing has changed.
