The writing in the first chapter is solid and pulled me in.  It starts a bit like "The Dollhouse" with time travel.  A non-human operative is sent through time on missions which will alter the balance of power in that part of the world.  When he returns, his memory will be wiped.  Then he sees a woman who recognizes him, or what he is.
