As a DM for D&D, I’m always interested in seeing ways of perverting wishes. This alone is what got me through the first chapter of Bad Genie. The opening scene hurt a little bit to read, whether this is because of the actions of Melvin were downright childish, or because the way the dialogue seemed just plain odd I couldn’t tell you.
The rest of it was quite redeeming however, as I found later that I couldn’t stop reading it, finishing the novel in one sitting.
The end of the story was both what I predicted and yet not, which left me pleasantly surprised.
All in all, it’s a good way to pass a few hours of time and even imparts a moral, reminiscent of the good old Fractured Fairy Tales.
