The Descendants by Landon "Vaal" Porter

A Comic Book Universe . . . without the pictures.

The Descendants is web serial styling itself after a comic book universe, right down to a format that included minis, annuals and one shot stories.

The central plot follows the lives of a group of superpowered individuals (psionics) as they attempt to live together following a betrayal by the organization supposedly meant to protect them. Interpersonal relationships take as much, if not more stage than superheroics.

Note: The Descendants contains some harsh language.

An ongoing series, with new episodes weekly

Oct 11, 2012: I’ve just made it through the first year of Descendants, and I have to say it’s been tough. Since the series is working on its fifth year, I remain hopeful that the issues I have will clear up by the time I reach the present, but it has been a struggle to find enough in the story to justify the effort. The fact that I have actually kept going is probably testament that the story is good, though.

Very long, and very good.

Mar 6, 2014: Unlike some people, I enjoy archive panic. Having a large volume to read through means I’ll be able to stave off boredom for longer. When I found the Decendants, it was a godsend. It has the single largest archives of any serial I’ve seen to date, complete with side stories to tide you over when you get caught up. More than that, the story is actually quite good.

The format is different from a lot of other serials- it’s not styled [more . . .]

A must read superhero serial, for all superhero comic fans

Feb 10, 2009: I think descendants will appeal to almost anyone who likes 70-90 era superhero comics. It starts off quick with the characters showing what they can do, and alludes to much else about their backgrounds. The action picks up quite well as the basic background is filled in, and characters progress/grow very well as new characters are introduced. It follows the comic formulas quite well, with chapters dealing with a story arc, and most major environmental things returning to the status quo. However, as also happens in comics, the characters individually [more . . .]
