The Hinges of Destiny by Angelle Tusa

a superhero serial

The main problem with the average superhero origin story is that they tend to go like this: Step 1. Singular event happens in the hero’s past to motivate him/her. Step 2. Hero gains superpowers or trains hard to get abilities. Step 3. Hero becomes famous/notorious.

The fact of the matter is that it is not one singular event that shapes our lives, but the decisions we make every day and the things that are always happening to us. Some people who are abused repeat the cycle, and others rise above it. The reason why is related to multiple determining factors through the person’s life. The Hinges of Destiny is an attempt to show a more realistic view of how someone would end up becoming a superhero or villain.

Note: The Hinges of Destiny contains some harsh language.

An ongoing series, with new episodes thrice weekly

She’s a small town girl in the middle of LA for college, who’s dealing with a new roommate, her best friend’s band, and that handsome guy who saved her purse from a snatcher. Oh, and she has superpowers.

There have been numerous attempts in the past to explore comic book superheroics from a grounded, everyday point of view, but I’ve never before seen one quite [more . . .]

Destiny went out the open door

By G.S. Williams, author of The Surprising Life and Death of Diggory Franklin

Jul 29, 2011: "Hinges of Destiny" has a title that promises either a grandiose epic or delusions of grandeur. Unfortunately, it’s the latter.

If you grew up watching Mighty Mouse cartoons or early Fleisch Superman serials, and you really long for a hero to punch someone in the face and say smugly "No need to thank me," in a heroic benevolence, then maybe this story is for you. And if your idea of witty banter is "No way!" "Yes, way!" then you’ll find this [more . . .]
