THE SECRET VOCAB OF SECRET MELBOURNE

Keep The Lights On

By Stormy, editor, author of Require: Cookie

Jul 23, 2008: The Secret Vocab of Secret Melbourne is an experimental study in brilliance. Its author is young, ambitious an unafraid of doing things that have the potential to drive readers away. For example, a recent chapter was written entirely in phonetics, which essentially meant you had to read it aloud, then recoil in horror from some of the things you had said.

Secret Vocab is edgy, without being a try hard, it does these things to push boundaries, not just to garner attention.

The story weaves in and out of Melbourne and its secret underground – familiar locations are thrown into stark contrast with what you might expect – I would wager a fair few readers now look twice as they walk through Flinder’s Street Station.

It’s dark, very dark, make no mistakes there. It’s not light reading, but it is a good trip to take.
