THE SURPRISING LIFE AND DEATH OF DIGGORY FRANKLIN

Time travel with serious Twists

The first issue of "The surprising life and death of Diggory Franklin" is full of clichés about time travel. Mr Franklin meets a beautiful lady who warns him to stay away from her or he will die, only to affirm that she loves him. Mr Franklin of course only remembers the passionate kiss, so when he see the lady with shorter hair sitting at a table, he approaches her.

We instantly understand that she will eventually travel back thru time and that this story will be just like so many other time-travel stories.

Yet, most of the chapters occur without the mysterious time-traveling lady and often, without her present day "companion". We are often bored with details about Mr. Franklin’s job, but never enough to stop reading.

Suddenly, Chapter 34, Crash! Bang! Boom! redefines the story completely. Now, the story of Calla Willey and her future time traveling becomes secondary to Mr. Franklin’s job and we understand the relevance of all these chapters we now feel guilty of having almost skipped.

Tiny phrases inserted in each of them make us understand that the plot of this story is much deeper than anticipated. Suddenly, the future Calla Wiley stops appearing, leaving in her place other mysterious characters which Mr Franklyn has a hard time "accepting".

The current installment, makes us yell at our screen : Come on Gavin (the author), spill us the beans !!! But at the same time, we now know that a serious confidence link has been created between the deranged mind of the author, and the craving of his readers.

Of course, a sexy physician who invent time traveling doesn’t hurt the story either, but with the second book, we now see that this series is already much bigger.
