Light and Lively

By Fiona Gregory, editor

Mar 28, 2013: This story starts out as a series of emails from Xandra to her best friend back in Philly, and later settles into a journal style narrative. Xandra’s motto is to live life to the fullest, including her sex life. She’s doing well at her job as a dispatcher in Los Angeles, and meeting men and women too, but she seems to keep running into mobsters. Her troubles start when she hides from an unwanted suitor and accidentally witnesses a murder . . . .Chick lit meets crime thriller!

The writing style is colloquial, which suits the narrator. Nevertheless, it is cleanly written, without typo’s. You do get a strong sense of Xandra’s exuberant personality, and her thoughts on life are pretty interesting even when she’s not fleeing assassins. The events sometimes strain credibility a bit but hey, it’s fiction. You really never know what’s around the corner. There are page long updates every second day, so the writer commitment here is strong. The serial has been running since June 2012.
