TIME AND TIDE

Editor’s First Look – Time Travel Adventure

By Palladian, editor, author of Super

Jun 3, 2018: Time and Tide follows an alternate-chapter scheme where you get the perspective of Gayla, a time traveler who goes back in time to sail on a whaling ship in the 1800’s, and the man she marries there, Obadiah, a whaling ship captain.

I liked the way the author draws us into the setting of the story, because we’re largely introduced to it using the perspective of someone who shares a modern reader’s sense of time and place. The author also does a good job of differentiating Gayla and Obadiah’s voices, from the things they pay attention to as well as the things they find noteworthy.

From the chapters available so far, the author seems to be pointing to some mission that Gayla has, going back into the past, but the story hasn’t progressed enough to see where this is going. This is interesting enough to keep readers page turning, and keep their interest in seeing how this part of the plot plays out.

I’d recommend this story to those interested in historical fiction, especially that surrounding the sea or the 1800’s whaling trade, or those interested in speculative time travel fiction.
