When an accident threatens a centuries-long truce between Ottumwa’s citizens and those who live under it, an unlikely and forbidden love affair may be the only thing that prevents the city’s destruction.

Six recent Ottumwa High graduates begin their summer much like the rest of their classmates; they party, prepare for college, look for jobs, and begin to explore life on their own terms.  On the surface, everything seems normal.

But the graduates know things are far from normal.

The day before graduation they disturbed something deep underground; something that poses a far greater danger than they could have ever imagined.  This summer, their fates will teeter on the balance between duty and passion; love and faith; self-interest and sacrifice.  The choices the graduates make will determine not only the direction the rest of their lives will take, but how long their lives will be.
