When the Hunting Party Came by Tree Frog Soup

Ryan and his cadre of friends are thrust into a world of capes and superpowers against their will. Will Ryan ever be able to find the normalcy he once enjoyed, or will he be swallowed up by the cape culture which he ignored?

Note: When the Hunting Party Came contains pervasive graphic violence and harsh language.

An ongoing series, with new episodes sporadically

Editor’s First Impression

By Fiona Gregory, editor

Sep 15, 2014: I enjoyed the opening chapters. Despite some technical flaws and rather glaring typo’s, the writing is lively and imaginative. Superpowers are changing the world, but Ryan, apathetic high school student, doesn’t care to hear about them. However, he’s forced to pay attention when he and his friends are kidnapped by a sociopathic supervillain gang.

Those who have read Worm will immediately recognize that The Hunting Party is inspired by the Slaughterhouse Nine, although their powers are different. Sure enough, the story soon gets very dark and gruesome. For me, a little of this goes a long way, and as it became apparent that it was going to go on like this for pages, I realized this story was not for me. However, I appreciated the creative take on a world in which bizarre superpowers have run amok.
