I’m with Sonja: Present tense usually drives me batty. It’s extremely hard to do. And it’s a testament to Chris Poirier’s skill as a writer that he carries it off unobtrusively and naturally.
In fact, I don’t know if you could tell this story in past tense. The writing has an immediacy and a freshness that keeps the story of this young werewolf at the bottom of his pack constantly moving forward. I check it often for updates and am always happy when they appear—though I could wish for them to be longer.
