Editor’s First Impression

Apr 15, 2011: Another let’s-look-back-on-what-happened zombie diary. Since AUD, we’ve listed about a dozen of these. This one seems about average, as those go. Worth a look if you can’t get enough zombie stories.

A fun read

May 4, 2011: Zombie Bytes is, of course, a tale of what happened when the dead rose. The things that make this particular story stand out, however, are the characters.

The main character Sarah Eichman, is a paramedic. She was involved in an accident that cost her a great deal before the apocalypse. So even when dealing with zombies she has to deal with the costs and consequences of what came before.

Sarah, and her friend Carla set off looking for lost friends and safety. On the way they find zombies, rapists, thugs, and love. The romantic entanglements definitely add to the depth of the story.

There were a few issues with the writing itself, some tense switching and a POV change that can be confusing. But all in all, good strong characters, interesting story, and the zombies actually take a backseat to the story of the relationships. Which is exactly what you’d want to see in a good zombie yarn.
