Zombie Girls by L.D. Silver

Left all alone in a world of zombies, Delilah must overcome her fears to find food.  She finds a partner in a younger girl, Cassie, and together they set out to find a safe home.  How far will they get?

Note: Zombie Girls contains pervasive graphic violence; also, some harsh language.

a wistful YA take on the classic zombie apocalypse story

I never thought I’d enjoy a zombie story this much. They don’t make sense to me from a sci-fi perspective, and I don’t find them as interesting as other supernatural creatures. However, this story has enough plot and character development to draw in a non zombie fan. This is because the focus is on the two young girls – their fears, their pluck, their adventures in zombie dodging.

I think the writing style here would be very accessible for young teen readers – the same age as the older character in the story. There are serious chills and thrills and "uh gross", but as yet I felt the horror, though real, was not so graphic as to be inappropriate for all but the most nightmare prone.  In any case, the young teen narrator’s voice comes through strongly, realistically, and sympathetically. As such, it’s also a fun, engrossing, light read for adults. When you need some distraction from your more mundane problems, indulge yourself in this treat.

Or if you are actually trying to survive in a zombified world, you may pick up some good tips from Delilah and Cassie.

“Zombie Girls” is a well-written novel about two girls alone in a world taken over by zombies.  Delilah and Cassie both had somebody to look after them but now they’re both alone.  They team up to survive, watch each other backs, and find some place safe.

The story is told in [more . . .]

Edge of my Seat

The first part of this serial pulled me in straight away and from there I’ve been trapped almost screaming when each part ends.  It’s good to see a zombie tale that is not only well written but also encapsulates the various ideas and themes that would be involved in such a situation, rather then just "look zombie!" – "Arh brains . . . " lol

Flows well, great detail and a good blend of action and story.
