I’ve long suspected that flash fiction might be better suited to a blog format than any other kind of fiction. There’s a momentous, elemental power to great pieces in the medium, as well as short poetry, that works best in a viral format, where someone can stumble upon something in the middle of the night during a Wikipedia binge and [more . . .]
(S)wine is good. The pieces are aptly called "short, lean cuts," and the writing is scary-effective—sudden stuff that really captures emotion. Every line reads with the urgency of sending time-sensitive freight. Pop, pop, pop. Cut, cut, cut. Most online fiction I see is bogged down with a kind of . . . conceit. Worlds with crazy names and rules and geography but no moments. [more . . .]
I’ve been following this writer from format to format across the web for years, all because his writing is just damned good. Solid. Engaging. Sometimes troubling and scary. He is a brave writer, with a powerful voice. I’m so glad that he keeps it up.
