The first chapter is well-written. The story starts right away with a young man crouched behind a display case trying to duck the bullets flying around the room. The jumps between point of view are a little bit rough.

I’ve been reading this web fiction since it began and it is a fairly solid piece of work. What captivated me when I first began reading were the new worlds, physical laws, powers, and races. It’s not easy to create a universe from scratch, but this story does it (and does it well). The characters are detailed enough that they [more . . .]
Just by chance, I happened to come across "Shattered Remnants of a Dream" by casually browsing the recently vetted.
Then, I read the first sentence:

SROAD is unique in that the writer makes a conscious effort to painstakingly create an entirely separate universe with just enough in common with the real world to keep it from being overwhelming.
