The Blessing Curse by Karma Girl

Blessings with the right hand, curses with the left, and death will follow her wherever she goes.

As the curse of Talia is passed down through the generations, Reza becomes the most recent recipient.  She is gifted with the ability to bless friends and family and to curse her enemies with a touch, but this gift comes with a heavy price.  Every night she dreams of her death-a horrible fate she can not prevent.

When the evil vampire lord Merick murders her mother, she sets upon him the worst curse she can imagine: empathy for his victims.  Hungry but unable to feed on human blood, Mercik seeks Reza out in a fit of rage and vengance only to be tricked into a making deal.  Help Reza overcome her family’s curse or live eternity feeding on vermin.

Note: The Blessing Curse contains some graphic sexual content, graphic violence, and harsh language.

Nice

I’ve been hesitant to read vampire fiction because of the very prevalent distraught/love-sick/emo wanna-be monsters that seem to have almost taken over the genre.  However, when I started to read the Blessing Curse, I was pleased that the vampire was evil.  He was a predator who thought nasty, bloody thoughts and referred to the ones he turned as "pets."

It was a lovely departure from the norm.

There isn’t a lot of story yet (eight chapters as of now), but the characters are strong, with hints of a familial curse that promises an interesting tale, to say the least.  The writing is engaging and pleasant to read.

I’m only giving 3.5 stars because the updates, no matter how enjoyable, are rather sporadic and sometimes far apart.  Ordinarily, as an editor, I would have waited for more chapters than 8 to write a review, but it’s also unfavorable to let a story slip through the cracks, as it were.  However, I shall continue to check for updates and edit my review accordingly as the story continues.  Blessing Curse is definitely worth a look, and I look forward to reading more.

Spooky

This is a lovely budding tale of vampires and curses.  To date there are six atmospheric and easy to read chapters.

I am really enjoying the writers style and the way she sows a trail of expectation right from the start.
