Aug 26, 2013: My first thoughts at reading the currently available six chapters of Another Night was that the author has successfully developed a soap opera-type world and story. For anyone who’s ever seen any of this type of thing, the world of Port Lyndon, Louisiana will be familiar – big mansions, the very wealthy and the very poor, and all of the divisions between them. As a result, I think fans of soap operas will probably like this serial.
Unfortunately, only 6 fairly short chapters have been posted so far, the last being in mid-May. Since the posting schedule for this story is supposed to be four new chapters a week, I’m not sure if this effort has been abandoned or if it’s on hiatus. A problem I personally had with the story is that so far, all the characters seem to be unlikable, which made it difficult for me to identify or root for any one of them. I’d also like to urge the author to please watch their typos; I didn’t spot a whole lot of them, but enough so that it threw me out of the reading experience now and again.
At any rate, I’d conditionally recommend this serial to soap opera fans, with the condition in mind that it hasn’t progressed very far yet and might be on hiatus. I’d be interested to see where the author goes with this story, and hope that it continues to progress.
