WORM

A must-read, but make sure you have plenty of time before you start,

May stories take time to develop. You stick with them at first because there is an interesting premise, and hope that persistence will pay off. Worm is not that story.

Worm did what a great story must. It pulled me in the from the first page and didn’t let go until I’d read through the entire archive overnight. It combines teen-age girl angst with super-heroism and makes it all work.

Taylor is a teenage girl who discovers that she has a super power: a kind of dorky-sounding power: the ability to control bugs. But she uses it so creatively that it winds up being credible for her to take down some very nasty super-villians.

Along the way she comes into contact with a wide variety of other super-folk, called "capes" – which is absolutely hilarious for anyone who remembers Edna Mode’s advice in The Incredibles. She finds badly needed friendship, faces death and serious injuries and makes some very unique choices.

WORM

At the top of my list

I’ve been reading online serial superheroic fiction for a long time now, and I’ve read most of the good stuff, and dragged my way through the first few chapters of a lot of the crap. As of right now, Worm is right there at the top of my list as the most compelling and well-written of the lot. Between the action and the character development and the cool, well-thought-out powers and the surprising social layers, I continue to be astounded by the quality. Oh yeah, and did I mention the action scenes? Gripping.

This is the serial fiction I look forward to the most every week.

SMALL TOWN RAVAGING

Battle between Worlds

"Small Town Ravaging" is an interesting trip between the worlds of reality and dream-like fantasy.  While this tale shows the unedited slips of a first draft, the author has built in many interesting characters that has maintained my interest through nineteen installments.

At times, the travel between the many locations of "the Inner," is a little confusing.  However, the action of the plot in these different locations keeps the reader grounded.  The constant battle between good and evil is a common, yet most often successful, pull to readers.  The destruction of the real world is balanced with the mystery of places unknown.

Having come this far with "Benny from Away," I find it impossible to give up on the story.
