The writing is good: sharp, clear, and concise.  I’m having a bit of trouble relating to the narrator, though, and I’m not sure why.

Just by chance, I happened to come across "Shattered Remnants of a Dream" by casually browsing the recently vetted.

Then, I read the first sentence:
