"Refuge of Delayed Souls" by the very talented Miladysa, is a time-spanning, genre-bending story that creates a powerful emotional attachment with its characters unlike most stories in this genre.
I’m four chapters into the story so far, which spans decades and tells the stories of the recently-deceased—and those who can communicate with them. I most enjoyed a little girl who is coming into her own as a medium, even as her father dreaded what was in story for her. It is this well-defined character development that sets this story apart and raises the bar. This is the most human ‘ghost story’ I’ve ever come across.
Time-jumping can be a little confusing at times, but this is easily rectified with a full chapter listing at the right of the page, which is easy to navigate. Also included is a full character listing for quick browsing.
The site recently completed an overhaul and in my opinion, the new theme suits the mood of the story, and the artwork complements nicely.
To summarize, if you enjoy stories of the supernatural, this is among the best on the web. My only real qualm is that I am still finding time to enjoy all of it. But if you’re not reading it, you should be.
