The Last Skull by Robert C. Rodgers

Teenagers. Super-heroes. Explosions. Time-travel.

After her mother died in a car accident, Sue Daysdale never expected to stumble upon the family secret—that the mild-mannered soccer mom who taught her how to dance, sing, and properly dress a wound was the Skull, one of the most legendary (and terrifying) super-heroes alive.  Now, saddled with an unpaid mortgage, a drug-addicted guardian, and a basement full of crime-fighting gear, Sue finds herself struggling to juggle her normal life with a distinctly abnormal one—and forced to decide whether or not she wants to pick up where her mother left off in the endless battle against the forces of iniquity and crime.

Note: The Last Skull contains some graphic violence and harsh language.

The first part jumps right in with a 16-year old finding a message from her dead mother.  Following the instructions, she find a secret bunker under her house, and hears more secrets about her mother and her ancestors.  The backstory is intriguing and the heroine comes across as a bit of a rebel.  Looks interesting so far.

Last Skull is a story well worth your time. Essentially, it’s a tale of a girl named Sue Daysdale who discovers that she’s part of a long lineage of super heroes. She finds this kind of shocking at first (wonder why), but she quickly grows into the roll. Along with the help of her old, school-of-hard-knocks mentor Sumerset, she gradually [more . . .]

I grew up a comic book geek thanks to my Dad’s extensive collection.  I get excited about superheroes, but I also have high standards because I’ve read so much.  Superheroes in text form are interesting to me because you get to know the interior world of the characters in a different way than a visual comic—you also get to use [more . . .]

I’ve been meaning to review this for a while, but decided to wait until the story reached a good stopping point to do so. Since the Tyrant arc just came to a conclusion, I figured this was as good a time as any.

First of all, I’m not a superhero fan, [more . . .]
