I enjoyed Scary Mary a lot. The story has a fast pace, a sympathetic main character with an engaging voice, and the prose is well written. It’s easy to get into and read through in one sitting. The site layout is easy to navigate and clear to read.
I didn’t care for the links within the story text—they were distracting and felt a little patronizing. Some of the characters were very two dimensional high school clichés, since the length and pacing didn’t allow for a lot of in depth characterization for the supporting cast, and as I’m a big fan of characterization in stories I sometimes wished we could see a bit more of a human side to them. However I still enjoyed Mary’s characterization, and as the story is clearly from her PoV, you see all the other characters as she sees them.
So if you like ghost stories, stories about high school, and are looking for a quick and engaging read, Scary Mary is your one stop shop.
