Jan 3, 2013: The Last Colony has a great concept, and some of the time it lives up to it. The main problem is it is too dialogue heavy. Pages and pages of discussions between multiple characters, all saying much the same thing, before anyone actually does anything. Something bad is going to happen. It’s going to be really bad and they are worried. They want to protect each other. The reader is hit over the head with this. Like most geek culture refugees, I love to explore new worlds and what happens when creatures who are fundamentally different than one another encounter one another. Space exploration or space shows always are perfect vehicles for such drama and while I don’t consume as many space-related works as I used to, it’s really not due to a lack of interest, but availability.
