TALES OF MU

Love it, but it has room to grow.

By bunbun, member

May 23, 2015: Tales of MU was the second serial I read (after reading Worm), so it holds a special place in my heart. The beginning really pulled me in and I immediately started devouring it.

I adore the ideas and the characters behind the story and I connected on certain levels with Mack. Amaranth worried me at first; I was afraid she would just be a Mary Sue, but her character flaws quickly became evident. The character development is extremely well done, which is perhaps why the pacing suffers.

Unfortunately, as several other readers have pointed out, it gets hard to stay with. I love the scenes, but I think the plot needs to move forward a bit more to keep the reader /involved/.

Overall, this is a wonderful serial that needs a bit of work. I would definitely recommend reading it!

PURE FICTION

Awesome!

By Palladian, editor, author of Super

Aug 31, 2014: If you’re a flash-fiction fan and you haven’t yet checked out any of the Pure Fiction pieces on her site, you should drop what you’re doing and head over there immediately to get lost, for at least a few minutes apiece, in the lives of others.

Kathleen Maher does a fabulous job of giving you a taste of many different worlds, from many different points of view. You can read about young and old people, the innocent and criminals, and even find out what might be going on in the mind of some pets. The writing itself is exquisite; I don’t remember finding a typo in the whole bunch of stories.

All in all, these are like a box of tiny chocolates, each with a handpainted scene on them, and only one exquisite bite apiece. My only complaint, since I really prefer long stories, was my perpetual feeling of “but what happens next?” If that’s not an issue for you, I recommend you go to her site and check these out right away. You’ll be glad you did.
